Timber fencing is one of the more affordable fencing options, so you want to keep it looking its best for as long as possible. It also looks great and is good for privacy, security, keeping your dogs secure and safe, and for stopping the wind ripping through your garden in exposed areas. Getting the best out of your timber fence
Just about everyone uses treated pine for their timber fencing, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need a bit of maintenance to keep it looking good and stop the rot from setting in. Here are five of our best tips for keeping your fencing in tip-top shape, all year round.
Tips for getting the best out of your timber
1. Is it treated timber?
This is the best way to ensure that your fence lasts for decades and stays in good shape. Treated timber resists rot really well and can stand up to the extremes of weather we enjoy in Australia.
2. Pressure washing timber
This is a great way to remove the green algae that grows on timber fencing when it’s in the shade and for removing any stains or debris that collects over time. You will be amazed at how well your fence looks after it’s been pressure washed – it practically looks brand new!
3. Trim bushes close to fences
That green algae can also grow on your timber fence when trees, bushes and plants grow too close to the fence. So keep them trimmed back and increase the aesthetics and durability of your timber fence.
4. Don’t put off repairs
If your fence becomes damaged, always repair it quickly, otherwise it can get worse and even put a strain on the rest of the fence. Storm damage can knock your fence over, palings can come adrift and over time, rot can eventually set in. So always repair your fence, as needed, and it will last for decades.
