Aussies love their backyards, but it can be backbreaking work keeping it well maintained and looking good all year round. So here are our top 5 maintenance tips for your backyard that all the family will love!

Maintenance tips for your backyard

1. Decks and patios

You might love a good lawn, but decks and patios can look fabulous and be very functional. You can hold BBQs on the patio or deck, lounge around with family and friends, and reduce the amount of lawn that needs attention. Stone patios won’t need much maintenance at all, whilst decks will need some work, but not every week!

2. Artificial grass

Don’t be put off by the old type of fake grass that most of us have seen over the years. That’s because the new artificial grass looks amazing! Unless you get down or your hands and knees to give it a good inspection, it’s very difficult to tell the difference between this grass and real grass. No more mowing!

3. Garden beds

Creating large rambling garden beds covered in deep mulch (this is the important step!) will give you lots of colour in your garden. The mulch keeps away weeds, reduces maintenance, and you have less lawn in your yard to mow!

4.Quality fences

When your fences need to be replaced make sure that you use a quality wood that’s been treated for termites. Don’t paint the fence because then it will need to be repainted regularly, just leave it to naturally age. A quality fence can last you for more than 20 years with just the odd hose down to keep it clean.

5.Perennials

If you really want to create a low maintenance yard, then opt for perennials that keep coming back every year. You don’t need to dig them up and replace them with new plants, they just keep giving every year!
