When you look out of your kitchen window and all you see is a boring fence, it’s time to start thinking about plants! Adding a little greenery in front of your fence can make a huge difference to your view, but how do you know what to plant along a fence?
The key is to select plants that will grow tall enough to hide a good portion of your fence. You can add smaller plants in front to give a layered effect and add more interest and depth but just using small plants really defeats the purpose!
Knowing what to plant along a fence to improve your view
Here are four of the best plants that add interest to your garden and hide a boring fence.
1. Bougainvillea
This fast growing shrub quickly grows to cover your fence and will delight you with their amazing display of flowers for most of the year. They do need to be cut back regularly, however, as they are prolific growers!
2. Clematis
With purple, pink, white or blue flowers, these vines are the perfect choice for covering up a boring fence. They love growing over fences and their flowers tumble over the top giving you a rich tapestry of colour from your kitchen window.
3. Chinese Star Jasmine
With oodles of small white flowers in late spring and early summer, the Chinese Star Jasmine is a fast growing vine that quickly covers your fence. Their heavenly scent when in flower is just one more reason to plant this wonderful climber in your garden.
4. Pine trees
These pencil slim trees not only add depth and interest to your garden, but they also add a Mediterranean feel as they provide cover for your fence. They do need to be kept in check as they can grow quite tall, but if you treat them like a hedge they are very manageable.
